Weston "Wes" Richard Obituary

February 21, 1942 - March 27, 2024

Walbridge, Ohio - Weston Richard (Wes), a proud Marine Corps veteran and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on March 27, 2024. He was 82 years old. Wes was born on February 21, 1942, in Opelousas, Louisiana. Wes enlisted in the United States Marines in October 1960, serving his country with honor and dedication until October 1964.

Wes is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Judy Richard, their son, Dennis Richard (Christa) and 3 grandchildren, Benjamin (Kara Guitteau), Andrew, and Natalie. He is also survived by his brothers, LD Richard and Larry Richard, and sisters, Jeanette Delhommer (Anthony), Carol Berteau (Billy), Mary Ann Smith (Fielding), and Donna Sue Ryland (Roy) and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Wes was preceded in death by his son, Wes Richard Jr., brothers Clayton Richard Sr. and Nolan Richard Sr., and sisters Ethel Perry and Helen McBride. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Natalie and Isadore Richard.

Wes had fond memories of his upbringing, working alongside his 10 siblings in the families’ cotton fields in Louisiana. These experiences instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family bonds. Throughout his life, Wes was dedicated to his work, spending over 30 years at Clyde's Carpet. He took great pride in his service as a Marine and cherished the camaraderie he shared with his fellow servicemen.

Above all, Wes treasured his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. He enjoyed spending time with them, playing games, and sharing his love of ice cream. He was particularly fond of partnering with Natalie to beat Maw Maw and Andrew in a game of marbles.

After retiring from Clyde's Carpet, Wes found joy in working with Lowe’s and Monroe Carpets, where he was able to work with Dwayne and Kristi Monroe who he loved dearly.

In addition to his love for his family and caring for his yard, Wes was an avid sports fan. He passionately supported the New Orleans Saints, LSU Tigers and the Cleveland Indians. He especially liked the Pittsburgh Steelers in support of Little Wes’ favorite team.

To honor Wes’ wishes, there will be no funeral services. If so inclined, please make any donations to the Special Olympics of Ohio in Wes and Little Wes’ memory.
