DALE EDGAR “ED” GILSON
Ed passed away on May 31, 2023. He was born on July 10, 1936 to Dale Elmore and Katherine Gilson, and raised on the family farm in Deerfield, Michigan. He graduated from Deerfield High School in 1954, then attended Michigan State University, and served In the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962.
Ed worked for Wacker Silicone from 1959 to 1996.
Ed attended Jasper Bible Church in Jasper, Michigan. He was an active member of the Adrian Civitan Club, holding various offices. He was also involved with the Maple City Swingers Square Dance Club and bowled on various bowling leagues. Most recently, Ed was a member of the Farmers Antique Tractor and Engine Association. FATEA, its members and activities meant a great deal to Ed. He enjoyed working with wood, making bowls and walking sticks. At the time he passed, he was in the process of building a reverie harp and re-creating a lawn ornament fashioned after one his father made when he was young.
Ed married Joyce Nofzinger in May of 2003. They spent their winters in Bowling Green, Florida, where Ed spent much of his time in the wood shop, enjoying the activities, and chatting with his friends and neighbors in the park.
Ed was pre-deceased by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, sister Karen (Curt) Bell, brother Larry (Judith) Gilson, son Dean (Amy), daughter Deborah (Steve) Stranges, stepdaughters Sheryl Styer and Laura (Matthias) Elser, a cousin Robert (Carolyn) Gilson, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Deerfield Township Cemetery on July 25, 2023, at 11am with Pastor Bruce Jewett officiating.
