Greg Karl Nelson
April 24, 1945 ~ January 24, 2024 (age 78) 78 Years Old
Greg Nelson, 79, of Ann Arbor MI took his last breath on January 24, 2024, at Hospice of Lenawee after losing his battle with cancer. He is survived by his son Michael Nelson (Vickie), his granddaughter Max, his stepdaughter Robin Lanford (Greg), his girlfriend of the last 5 years, Eleanor Pollak, his brothers Dave and Doug Nelson and his sister Pat Smiley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Polly and Wibur Nelson, his brothers John and Bruce Nelson, his wife Patricia Nelson, and his mother-in-law Margaret Rookes.
Greg was born 4/25/45 in Ames Iowa. He attended Western Michigan University where he received a bachelor’s in business administration. He loved his family, friends, reading, grilling on the back deck, Michigan football, swimming at the YMCA, spending time at the island and walking his adored Leonberger dogs. He was married to his childhood friend, Patricia Austin Prey, for over 20 years until her passing in 2016. He retired from Eastern Michigan University as accountant. He will always be remembered for his love of bartending their yearly Christmas Eve parties. He had so much fun decorating with lights. It was very festive! He also loved spending periodic weekends at Robin & Gregs house where he worked on the accounting for Gregs business and enjoyed the company of their friends.
His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread at the family’s island in Canada. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
The family sincerely appreciates the amazing care from the staff at both Chelsea Hospital as well as Hospice of Lenawee.
