James Steven King

James Steven King (1965-2022) James Steven King was a devoted and caring husband, father, brother, teacher, coach, and friend. He left his world suddenly on January 2, 2022 at age 56. He was born to Ruth and Wayne King on March 1, 1965. Born a Sandusky Blue Streak, Jim ran cross country and wrestled throughout junior high and high school. After graduating from Sandusky High School in 1983, he pursued his dream of being a teacher and received both his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Bowling Green State University. He was a dedicated and passionate teacher of Biology at Margaretta High School for 31 years. He spent many a season coaching cross-country and track at Margaretta High School as well as coaching and supporting the Huron wrestling program. Jim loved spending time with his beloved wife, Lynne, and three children, Matthew, Emily, and Thomas. He loved being in nature whether it was kayaking on Lake Erie, walking in the marsh with his beloved dog, Captain, sitting by the fire in his backyard, or enjoying a beautiful sunset. Jim could build, make, or fix anything and spent his days off working on projects around the house. The youngest of seven, he loved being surrounded by his large, extended family and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Wayne King, and older brother Greg King. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lynne, and children Matthew, Emily (Jon), and Thomas as well as his siblings Wayne (Susan) King, Cheryl (James) Capizzi, sister-in-law Patti King, Joan (Dennis) Popik, Brion (Mary) King, Patricia (Stephen) Gast and by his mother-in-law Anne Hawley Gast. An open house Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1-3pm at Mesenburg’s Hall, 545 Cleveland Rd. West in Huron, Ohio. There will not be any formal service, just a gathering of everyone touched by Jim’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a scholarship fund in his memory. If you wish to honor Jim by contributing to his memory, please make your donation(s) to Margaretta Local Schools with a notation on the subject line showing “James King Memorial Scholarship''. Donations can be mailed to Margaretta Board of Education Office, 305 South Washington St. Castalia, OH 44824 and will also be accepted at the Celebration of Life.
