Ahlfors (Johnson), Jody, 73, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away March 15, 2021 from Alzheimers.
Jody was born in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Byron and Carol Johnson. Jody’s older sisters, Penny and Sandy, were allowed to name their baby sister and they picked Jody. Despite their choice Carol put Cynthia as her name on the birth certificate, but she was always called Jody. In fact, she didn’t know her name wasn’t Jody until she attended kindergarten and her teacher insisted on calling her Cynthia! Jody always got a kick out of sharing that story.
Jody spent her entire childhood in North Dakota. She graduated from the University of North Dakota where she met and married the love of her life, Eric. The two settled in Eric’s hometown of Toledo, Ohio and raised their children, Carrie and Jon. Jody raised their children at home and later worked at several accounting firms. She spent most of her time at Vineyard Lake in south-eastern Michigan after retirement.
Together, Jody and Eric were always the life of the party! They loved hosting friends and family and created memorable events like the Bernath Olympics and numerous themed dinners at their home at Vineyard Lake. She shared that love with her four grandchildren and taught them how to make some of her delicious specialites. Jody truly was the hostess with the mostess!
Hockey played a huge part in Jody’s life. She loved the sport at all levels and she even was a hockey cheerleader growing up! She looked forward to the annual NCAA ice hockey championship every year as well as the NHL playoffs. Jody was ecstatic when her beloved UND Fighting Sioux or Detroit Red Wings would win it all!
She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Eric, parents, and sister, Penny McMahon. Jody is survived by her daughter, Carrie (David) Bork, of Holland, Ohio; son, Jon (Jen) Ahlfors, of Grove City, Ohio; sister Sandy Buchanan, of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister-in-law Linde (Stan) Clemens, of Findlay, Ohio, grandchildren Lydia, Michaela, Sam, and Derek, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date this year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
