Phyllis Jean (Hammons) Briggs

Phyllis Jean (Hammons) Briggs went home to be with Our Lord on Sunday June 4, 2023.

Born on May 7, 1935, to Hazel (Eastham) and Cleo Hammons, Phyllis was the 3rd of 6 children. Part of the 1953 graduating class of Blissfield, Phyllis went on to marry her high school sweetheart Kenneth William Briggs on April 24, 1954, spending 68 years together before his death in 2022.

Together, Phyllis and Ken had 3 daughters, raising them in Jackson before settling in Coldwater in 1976, where they lived for the remainder of their years.

Phyllis dedicated her life to volunteer work. A few of her favorite activities were visiting seniors with Coldwater United Methodist Church, working in the gift shop at Coldwater Promedica Hospital, hosting bus trips with All Seasons Travel, singing at many area nursing homes, and finally, spending countless holiday seasons dressing up as Mrs. Claus and visiting different facilities and organizations.

Despite her packed schedule, Phyllis always made time for a sleepover, tea party, or shopping trip with her granddaughters. Rarely ever did she miss a track meet, volleyball game, concert, or big presentation, always finishing the event off with a big hug.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ken, her loving parents, brothers Charles and Larry, sister Betty, and beloved daughter Jeanne.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters Nancy (Dave) Moore of Coldwater and Judi (Steve) Hadley of Paw Paw, Sisters Barb and Bonnie, sister-in-law Suzy, Granddaughters Becky, Sarah, Kendra, Alicia, and Jenah, 4 great grandchildren, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial will take place at a later date.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the caring staff members at Drew’s Place of Coldwater, Promedica Hospice, and Rich at American Cremation Events.
