Robert (Bob) Van Sickle, 69, lost his battle against cancer on February 20, 2023. He died peacefully in his home under the care of his wife, Judy; daughters, Rachel and Claire; grandchildren, Brad and Lilliayn; and the caring professionals at SouthernCare Hospice Services.
Bob was born August 16, 1953, to Robert and Mary Van Sickle in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Northwood High School in 1971 where he played football and, in the band, and participated in several clubs and activities (and a fair amount of slacking off).
Always looking for a new challenge, Bob worked in Toledo’s glass industry and in sales, but his real passion lay with caring for animals. Some of the happiest points of his career included working at an aquarium store for his dear friends Ivan and Marci. Bob’s love of creatures extended to his home life as well, and his children grew up with lots of fur siblings.
Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Sharon, and his brother Dave. His larger-than-life presence will be missed by all. The family requests that, if you knew Bob, you listen to Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky” (loudly). The family also asks that any memorial gifts be sent to SouthernCare Hospice Services (Gentiva Foundation) so that others can benefit from their exemplary care.
